NPC Oregon is proud to introduce bodybuilder Brandon Lyons. Brandon recently won the Superheavyweight & Overall at the 2010 Oregon Ironman in Lincoln City, OR. Check out the interview below to learn more about Brandon and also be sure to support him as he takes his physique to the National level.
1. When and why did you decide to start competing?
I was 19 years old and trained out of a gym called "Olympic Gym" in Gresham, OR. Some of the local competitors inspired me to do the Seven Feathers show in the jr division. I swore to myself I would never put myself through that process again! But the second I walked of stage I said to myself, "WHAT SHOW AM I DOING NEXT?"
2. What makes you want to go farther in the sport?
I aspire to earn a pro card! I hope to one day make a living and support my family by accomplishing my dreams, showing my future children and everyone else that everyone should follow your dreams and never settle for mediocrity!
3. What type of training do you implement during contest prep and the in the off-season?
My weights do not change at all.. the only things that shift is my cardio, supplements, and most of all DIET!!
4. What is your favorite type of dieting meals and what is your favorite type of cheat meal?
I love BEEF and YAMS while pre-contest! Off season I enjoy Burgers, Pizza, and Donuts!
5. Who are some of the people that have helped you along the way to get where you are now in life or in the sport?
I have MANY individuals that have inspired me greatly! My coach Bleu Taylor has helped not only direct me on the right path to achiving maximum results but in many ways that he'll never understand saved my life. I went through a rough patch and Bleu inspired me through that time of need and helped me mentally get on the right track and coached me throughout my success this year. Andre "Bam Bam" Scott one of my mentours also has been there for me through thick and thin. I love that man like an older brother and would do anything for that man. Sean Calder also has been an amazing mentour and always been there for me emotionally and mentally, helping me stay on point as far as mental focus goes! Other individuals I would like to give a special thanks to whom have affected me positively along my journey is : Ricky Collins, Todd Scott, Noel Fuller, David Praska.
6. Who or what inspires you to strive for more in the sport?
Bleu Taylor my coach and one of my best friends is a key inspiration for me. He won his pro card and started competing at the same time as I did. He truly dedicated his life to the sport and made it a 24-7 365 day a year sport and that truly showed me that I can do this too. All I needed was to realize the true commitment and consistency it takes, and Bleu inspire me to do so. Another key inspiration is my gf and her 2 beautiful children. They make me want to work that much harder not only to hopefully one ay provide a living due to my dreams coming true, but to be a good role model for the kids and show them where hard work leads, SUCCESS!
7. What is next for you as a competitor?
In 2 weeks I step on stage ain chicago at Jr Nationals. I will have to see what the boss wants me to do (Bleu) but I am assuming that well be taking a good year off and hopefully come back to USA in Vegas 2011!
8. What is your favorite memory good or bad while prepping or competing?
Favorite memory, winning jr class at Emerald Cup beating 22 other young men was a very amazing experience! That was the first show I won and I strive for that feeling every single day now!! I never want to feel anything different!! As for bad, oh my gosh, I had 2 uncles pass away while being inside 6 weeks of the emerald cup. That was draining, not to mention a lot of the relationship issues I was dealing with at the time. Luckily I found the most amazing supportive woman now and I dont have to worry about that! :)
