CODY WATKINS
NPC BODYBUILDER

The Pacific Northwest is stacked with good quality bodybuilders and Cody Watkins is a big part of that group. Cody has been able to capture not one, but multiple Overall titles including the Seven Feathers Championships, Pacific Coast Championships and also the Emerald Cup! Cody brings a physqiue to the stage with balanced symmetry and aesthics and we can see big things for him down the road as he continues to grown and perfect his onstage physique.

1. When and why did you decide to start competing?
I started competing in 2010. I had some friends that competed in the Oregon State the previous year, they convinced me I should do the show so I started my prep 16 weeks out.

2. What makes you want to go farther in the sport?
I love training and seeing my body change. Making improvements and seeing results year to year is what keeps me going.

3. What type of training do you implement during contest prep and the in the off-season?
There's not a big difference between contest prep and off-season.With contest prep I have to account for less energy so the workouts adjust accordingly. I train higher volume lower rest, lots of supersets/giant sets. In 2010 I stopped doing any type of cardio and haven't needed to add cardio in since then. I train 7 days a week, adjusting my split every 4-6 weeks as progress stalls to keep things moving. I always vary my split to bring up areas I feel aren't up to par, putting an emphasis on these.

4. What is your favorite type of dieting meals and what is your favorite type of cheat meal?
Dieting meals I just drink egg whites and eat oatmeal with cinnamon and splenda. With cheat meals I like things easy to consume with higher carbs/lower fats, gummy worms, yo-cream, sugary cereals all work. Now if I want something where I'm not worrying about fat intake pizza or something from dairy queen are my go to.

5. Who are some of the people that have helped you along the way to get where you are now in life or in the sport?
Calvin Cosgrove and Rich Sigmon for first getting me to compete and introducing me to Andre Scott. I locked in the posing with Dre and he's been my go-to posing coach for every show I've done. Matt and Rachel Porter have been great friends, a wealth of knowledge and support around my shows. My sister Kellsie has been there since I first started lifting in high school, supporting me all the way. My entire family is very proud and supportive, I'm very fortunate there. Last but not least my wife, Jamie, who I wouldn't be able to do this without. Prep is tough stuff and she makes sure I have all my ducks in a row. She also isn't shy about pointing out things I need to improve which helps big time.

6. Who or what inspires you to strive for more in the sport?
When I first got involved with this sport there were guys that I watched compete and that I really looked up to. In my last few shows several of them messaged me about how good my showing was, conditioning, placing etc. These were people I looked up to when I first started and getting recognition from them was something I never expected but makes me want to strive to be even better.

7. What is next for you as a competitor?
A good progress season. I need to gain a few more pounds to be more competitive on stage at the national level so I'm taking the time to make the progress before I make my next move. No set show date currently.

8. What is your favorite memory good or bad while prepping or competing?
My wife Jamie's reaction when I win, she gets more excited than me.

9. Any website you would like to plug, facebook, twitter, personal site, etc...
I’m on Facebook, and also have a trainer Facebook page as well Instagram and my own website CodyWatkinsFitness.com.

10. Anything you would like to say to all the visitors to NPC Oregon?

Be consistent, keep focused, and enjoy the process. It will take time to build a great physique, it's something you just can't rush.
