DILLON ST. MICHAEL
NPC BODYBUILDER

With only two shows under his belt... Dillon has already stomped his foot on the stage! Dillon competed at the NPC Cascadian Classic in his first show as a Middleweight and won both his Novice and Open class... two years later, he stepped on stage at a legit Light Heavyweight and not only won his class, won a very competitive Overall title at the 2021 NPC Northwest Championships. The improvements and growth Dillon did in two years is a great indication of what is to come... we for sure see a IFBB Pro card in his hands very soon!

1. When and why did you decide to start competing?
I started lifting weights my Sophomore year of high school, I had joined the football team but was probably the smallest kid on the team at the time. I remember watching tape and my coach cracking jokes in front of the team about me being to small to play. Although it hurt to hear, it was the truth, and lit a fire inside me. I got a gym membership, started eating more, and found although I was somewhat smaller in stature, my body responded very well and I put on muscle quickly. Within a year I had gained forty pounds, after a couple years when I was 18 or 19 I started my first contest prep, halfway through I made the mistake of getting peer pressured into arm-wrestling two of my friends at once. I snapped my humerus cleanly in half, spiral fracturing my upper arm, leaving my forearm lying completely parallel in the opposite direction on the table. Not a fun time, but a hard lesson well learned. This completely restarted my process, put me out for a year, and caused me to lose most all of what I had gained. I started back when I was almost 20 after the healing and rehabbing process, and decided to do my first show in 2019, after a couple years back of training. I won my novice, and open middleweight class at the Cascadian Classic but placed 2nd in the Overall. Fast forward to 2021, where I just won my first overall as a light heavyweight at the Northwest Championships!

2. What makes you want to go farther in the sport?
The primary driving force behind my progression is my love for bodybuilding as a whole, and bettering myself. I am very self critical and will not stop until I am the best bodybuilder I can be. My goal is to turn pro, compete on a pro stage, and eventually secure a sponsorship. I also just want to make that small kid who started with big dreams proud, as well as all the wonderful people supporting me. I would also like to do my part, and bring some more name recognition to the Oregon bodybuilding scene!

3. What type of training do you implement during contest prep and the in the off-season?
My training for the most part stays the same in the offseason vs pre-contest, the only difference being pulling back intensity the last week or two of prep. I am a big proponent of progressive overload, especially in my compound movements, while trying to keep form and tempo as meticulous as possible. With that being said, I also train with relatively high volume, and think it's equally important to implement intensifier techniques such as drop sets, supersets, etc.  


4. What is your favorite type of dieting meals and what is your favorite type of cheat meal?
My favorite type of dieting meal would have to be anything with some extra fats such as ground beef or steak. Chicken breast and fish get old, especially being the bulk of a prep diet. My favorite cheat meal would probably have to be a burger and fries!

5. Who are some of the people that have helped you along the way to get where you are now in life or in the sport?
I owe a ton of thanks to my fiancée, family, friends and clients for supporting and believing in me, and to Tim O'Malley for coaching me, taking me under his wing, and providing the ultimate training facility for me and my fellow O'Malleys athletes. I also owe a huge thanks to Addison Alexander, Jake Hamaker, and Brandon Lyons for helping and supporting me so much along the way, and continuing to do so. Finally I owe thanks to my good friend and business mentor Andy Weitz, who has taken me under his wing, and shown me how to start working towards my business/financial dreams. So thankful for all these people, I don't know where I'd be without them.

6. Who or what inspires you to strive for more in the sport?
I want to be good! I am motivated to climb the ranks, chase my dreams, better myself, and build my business. I also want to lead by example, and show my clients that you can do anything you set your mind to, through perseverance, passion, hard work, and discipline!

7. What is next for you as a competitor?
I believe my next step is starting to move towards a national show, although being only two shows deep, I do want to get more local shows under my belt, and hopefully secure some more overalls before I start solely gunning for nationals.


8. What is your favorite memory good or bad while prepping or competing?
I would have to say my favorite memory would be winning my first overall at the 2021 Northwest Championships! It felt really good to be able to secure that spot, especially after getting second in the overall for my first show.
