JOSHUA THOMPSON
IFBB PRO BODYBUILDER |
FACEBOOK

It's rare when a competitor comes along, specially in bodybuilding and makes a clean sweep.. And, as a Bantamweight! Joshua Thompson competed in his first show at the 2014 NPC Natural Vancouver USA Championships and not only won his class, but also won the overall! Not many bantamweights do that in big shows. He then decied to jump in the deep end as he entered the 2014 Emerald Cup. He was tested for sure, but still came out with a 1st place in his first show at the Emerald Cup. Watch for this kid!

1. When and why did you decide to start competing?
Feb 17, 2012 is when i decided to do a show, i decided to do a show because i was 230lbs and over weight and my brother and sister in-law were getting ready to do their first show.

2. What makes you want to go farther in the sport?
My love for the sport and knowing i could have a great future in it, the first two shows i've done i have gotten first place.

3. What type of training do you implement during contest prep and the in the off-season?
During contest prep i focus more on higher reps and isolation movements and HIIT training for my cardio and off-season is more focused on heavier weights and fewer reps but still use a lot of isolation movements.

4. What is your favorite type of dieting meals and what is your favorite type of cheat meal?
My favorite dieting meals are my carb load days, that includes pancakes, rice and oatmeal, with either egg white omelette, turkey breast loins or ground beef, my favorite cheat meal is sushi, because i get the carbs i need and also get my lean protein and it feels like im cheating but really im not.

5. Who are some of the people that have helped you along the way to get where you are now in life or in the sport?
Some of the people that has helped me are my brother Salah Ali and my sister in-law Misty Ali they got me started with my weight loss and introduced me into bodybuilding. Another person how has helped me is my girlfriend Chelsea Matthews, she helped keep me focused and to keep going when i needed it most and the one person who has helped me the most would be my coach Matt Porter, even before he became my coach he gave me tips, knowledge and guidance to help me get in shape and ready to compete and when he became my coach he was there every step of the way with weekly check-ins contest prep diet and being with me at my shows to cheer me on.

6. Who or what inspires you to strive for more in the sport?
My girlfriend Chelsea Matthews and my daughters Jade and Jayla Thompson, they make me want to be and do my best so i can be able to support us with no worries and knowing i have a good chance of going far in this industry.

7. What is next for you as a competitor?
Going for my pro card to be able to support my family.

8. What is your favorite memory good or bad while prepping or competing?
My all time favorite during my contest prep was watching my body change and stepping on that stage, and what i hated about contest prep was when my carbs got dropped down to 50g a day.

9. Any website you would like to plug, facebook, twitter, personal site, etc...
Anyone  is interested in my bodybuilding profile, can contact me on Facebook, Instagram or  Email me directly at joshuathompson1991@yahoo.com

10. Anything you would like to say to all the visitors to NPC Oregon?

You can do anything you put your mind to, because the only person stopping yourself is you. i started from 235lbs and stepped on stage at 140lbs and i never thought I was going to be able to but i kept pushing and never gave up.
