A show in the Pacific Northwest just isn't the same without seeing Jack & Kay Friend either onstage or in the crowd cheering on others. Kay along with her husband Jack have been apart of the competition scene for many years and probably have to have an addition on their home just for all the trophies the two have won together over the years. Kay herself is a great testament to persistence, hard work, patience, and discipline while trying to achieve IFBB Pro status. IFBB Pro is what she earned this past summer at the 2014 Masters Nationals! We are proud to feature such an inspirational athlete who is proving to people half her age that you get out of it what you put into it!

1. When and why did you decide to start competing?
My first BB show was 1995, I went to the BB show about 3 month prior , my workout partner was competing in that show , that inspired me to compete, so I asked my trainer if I could get ready for the show in 3 month. I didn't want to compete in the town I lived , so I did the first contest in Eugene Oregon . I took 3d. I only weighed 107 pound I didn't have much muscles but I came in pretty lean.

2. What makes you want to go farther in the sport?
This bodybuilding is the best way to keep your body young, since I started nearly 20 years ago.. I put on more muscle and improved every year is what I am being told.

3. What type of training do you implement during contest prep and the in the off-season?
I like to do weight training and 40 min. of cardio on the stairs during the off season and and incorporate another hour of cardio when prepping for a contest.

4. What is your favorite type of dieting meals and what is your favorite type of cheat meal?
When dieting, my favorite diet meals are salmon and green beans. Then when I get a cheat meal, it is usually a hamburger or pizza, and always a Dairy Queen Blizzard to top it off!

5. Who are some of the people that have helped you along the way to get where you are now in life or in the sport?
My husband jack Friend who is always there for me and with me, Dave Palumbo, and our team members from NWMUSCLE in Medford, Oregon.

6. Who or what inspires you to strive for more in the sport?
My first work out partner who is also my husband Jack. We both just love participating in competitions.

7. What is next for you as a competitor?
My next show will be the 2015 IFBB North America Championships in Masters Bodybuilding and maybe in the Masters Physique division if i am allowed to do both.

8. What is your favorite memory good or bad while prepping or competing?
Favorite memory is so far is winning the Emerald Cup Overall in Masters Bodybuilding. I don't have many bad memories.. if I did, I try to use it as ways to get better. Also because I try not to gain too much body fat in the off season, I never suffer too much while dieting for any competition.

9. Any website you would like to plug, facebook, twitter, personal site, etc...
You can find me on Facebook

10. Anything you would like to say to all the visitors to NPC Oregon?

The main reason I am unique is because I am 66 years old and still competing! Like I said before, I didn't start lifting till the age of 45.. so anybody that has a drive and the discipline, you can achieve your goals!
